Itching for a little getaway? Luckily for you, there’s plenty in reach! We asked our team to share their favourite destinations just outside of Canberra. Whether you prefer the adrenaline rush of skiing or mellower activities like wine tasting, there’s plenty to do and see around the ACT.
Everyone needs a little adventure now and then and, fortunately for you, Canberra is packed with fun, interesting destinations all within a day’s reach.
While you may be tempted to spend the winter indoors, our advice is to get out there! Here are three of our favourite spots.
1. Check out Batemans Bay
It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing togs or a jumper – a trip to the ocean is always a treat!
Batemans Bay, located just two hours down the Kings Highway, is a cute seaside town with heaps of cafes, restaurants and recreation options on offer. Be sure to check out the Eurobodalla Botanic Gardens as well while you’re town.
2. Whet your appetite in wine country
Murrambateman is a dream getaway for Canberra winos. Whether you prefer red or white, there’s plenty to sip on here.
Not a huge fan of wine tasting? Located nearby is the historic village of Gundaroo. Here, you can explore the Gundaroo Colonial Inn as well as other venues dating back to the 1800s.
3. Hit the slopes in the Snowy Mountains
Canberran’s are lucky to have not only the beach in reach, but also the mountains! Just a couple of hours away are the Snowy Mountains, where you can give skiing a go at Thredbo, Smiggins Holes or Perisher Blue Ski Resort.
