Already thinking about heating costs this winter? While energy consumption is likely to rise during cooler months, you shouldn’t have to break the bank to keep your home comfortable. We take a look at three ways to keep your rental toasty and warm this winter without spending a fortune.
With winter upon us, many Canberran’s are looking forward to spending some time indoors catching up with family and friends. This, after all, is one of winter’s few perks – but does it need to come at a cost to our energy bill?
Not necessarily. With these three steps, you can keep your rental home warm this winter without breaking the bank
1. Adjust your thermostat
This might seem obvious, but few of us are strategic about how and when we heat our homes.
To give your energy consumption a break, be sure to lower the temperature when you’re asleep or out of the house for extended periods of time.
2. Utilise the sun
You don’t need solar panels to harness the power of Mother Earth’s natural heating device: the sun. To soak up natural warmth all day, be sure to let sunlight into your home by opening curtains and blinds during the day.
3. Use ceiling fans to circulate heat
Heat rises, which is why we use ceiling fans to push hot air up and out of the way in summer. In winter, however, ceiling fans can be used for the opposite effect.
To push warm air down, adjust your ceiling fan so it spins clockwise. This will push hot air back down and keep you and your home toasty warm.
