Weston Creek, the smallest of Canberra’s districts, is often touted as the ‘geographical centre’ even though it sits to the southwest of the city. It regularly features in either tops or second in surveys of ‘the best place to live in Canberra’.

Small but perfectly formed
Weston Creek was established as a residential district in the late-1960s as an offshoot of Canberra’s first satellite city in the adjacent Woden Valley. Eight suburbs comprise the Weston Creek area – Chapman, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Rivett, Stirling, Waramanga and Weston. Each of these suburbs has its own local shopping centre and they all share the larger district centre of Cooleman Court in Weston.
Surrounded by natural bushland, Weston Creek is a peaceful community and has a slightly older population than the rest of Canberra, with a number of retirement homes adding to the mix of apartments and homes in the area.
Towards the northern end of the suburb of Weston there are areas of land that have only recently been developed, providing the opportunity to purchase new. Weston Creek also has a good range of townhouses available, generally located around the shopping centres.

Weston Creek has been described as ‘one of the most picturesque parts’ of the National Capital with many homes enjoying beautiful views. The residents think their vista is a secret and would rather neighbouring districts don’t find out, so shhh!
Renowned for its easy access to outdoor spaces to enjoy, Weston Creek offers runs, rides (on two wheels or four legs), the amazing Stromlo Forest Park and is close to the Cotter. It has a surprising number of local sports teams across codes such as football, rugby union, ARL, baseball, lawn bowls and cricket. There is also a competitive Weston Creek netball competition, called Arawang. Junior sporting groups are also well represented with the Weston Creek Little Athletics Centre. A tennis complex (Weston Creek Tennis Club) and skate park round off the list of facilities.
A true sense of community but close to everything
Canberra’s north and south are an easy commute, thanks to the Tuggeranong Parkway. Fyshwick and the airport are within easy reach via Hindmarsh Drive, the Woden town centre is just a few minutes away too and all basic amenities are right at the doorstep. A major defence establishment, the Australian Defence College, is in the region.
Despite its relatively small size, locals have a very strong representative voice in the Weston Creek Community Council.
Both the National Arboretum and the National Zoo and Aquarium is on Weston Creek’s doorstep, so you and your visitors can get up close and personal with a wide variety of native flora and fauna and plenty of exotic animals.
